Echo Status Update and Your Opinion Wanted

Dear Readers,

We are taking a slight break until about the third week of August. That doesn't mean we are not here and you will still see a few stories that are in the queue, namely one about Network for Community Ministries and one about the RISD. You should see those in a few days. We will still be here to publish your pieces so send them to us.

Hopefully, we are going to change a few things in the meantime.

We also want your opinion at two things.

First, we want to know what things you love and dislike about Richardson. We want you to be as specific as possible and we want you to tell us why.

Do you like a particular restaurant? Is there a great person in your part of the community? A volunteer, minister, doctor or city official? Is there something new -- anything specific -- in Richardson you want to tell others about? How about a special place in Richardson that others might not know about? How about a mom & pop shop that others might not know about? Any person, place, thing, or event is fair game for your kudos.

What do you dislike? Is there a business that rubs you the wrong way? Is there an intersection or traffic concern that you hate? A volunteer, minister, doctor or city official? Has something happened on the past year or so in Richardson that makes you mad? Tell us anything specific and tell us why? Any person, place, thing, or event is fair game for your criticism.

We would love to know what you are thinking. We aren't going to publish your name and your information will be confidential. However, we would prefer a good way to contact you though.

Go to our contact by clicking here and send us your thoughts to the questions above. (Please use our contact page as opposed to the feedback mechanism below.)

Thanks for Reading

I just found this wonderful website this early a.m. and was truly pleased to finally see something like this! I was one of the first true 3 year olds in the new City of Richardson back in 1960. The home my parents bought was right off of Arapaho Road across from the Public Swimming Pool. I have lived in this wonderful town over 40 years, in different areas and I know it well. I grew up here and our teenage place of fun was Height's Park and playing on the rocket. Now, I read it is scheduled to be torn down. What a shame. When I grew up, got married and had children of my own, I took them to Height's park and had them experience the rocket, swings, space ship, etc. Then the "when I was your age..." stories would began and Richardson held a nostalgic place in my children's hearts as well as my own. I graduated from UTD and worked as a reporter, filled in for photo shoots and assisted the Editor with anything she needed. The newspaper was called The Mercury during the late 1980's when I returned to college to complete my degree.
I have worked in some of the first fast food restaurants like Dairy Queen and Shakee's Pizza on Arapaho Road, near Hampshire. I have worked in Richardson in 8 out of 10 full time jobs I had over the years. I've watched people grow up and move away, come back and stay. I seen some friends from J.J. Pearce where I attended high school with Ken Shriner a.k.a. Scotty on General Hospital, until his family went back to California to return to show business.
In closing, I wouldn't have traded the times I spent growing up here for anything! Even now living one block from the Richardson border at Jupiter Road, I find I can never be more than a few miles away from my true home town.
Thank you for creating The Richardson Echo and please feel free to email me with questions should you have some that I might be able to assist you answering.
Sincerely....Sharron Swain, park of The Height's Park Gang, a true Richardsonite.
