It has become increasingly important for Americans to have an understanding of the different cultures around the world, and even children need to learn how to interact and communicate with people from other countries. Some high school students in the Richardson community are becoming global citizens thanks to the new Dallas International School (DIS), which relocated and opened its high school on the UT Dallas campus on August 25.
The collaboration with UT Dallas exposes DIS students and faculty to the state-of-the-art amenities at UT Dallas, including libraries, science labs and digital art facilities.
DIS is the only private educational institute in North Texas to offer both the French Baccalaureate and International Baccalaureate to high school students. This is the first year DIS will be offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. This program is taught in English and no foreign language abilities are required, but are necessary for students earning a French Baccalaureate.
This high school program is open to any high school student in the Dallas area wanting to take advantage of the premiere programs offered by this DIS.
DIS is a preschool through high school program that teaches its students, starting at the age of three, all academic subjects in French and English. Spanish instruction is the third language taught at all grade levels, and Chinese becomes a language choice at the sixth-grade level.
Students at DIS recently received one of the highest testing scores out of all Dallas schools – public and private. Additionally, UTD has selected the DIS elementary learning institute as its flagship of study for its university level, early education research and program.
DIS graduates can compete for undergraduate scholarships to UT Dallas, and the school is in the process of getting certified to host exchange students for an upcoming academic year. More information about DIS and its new campus at UT Dallas can be found at www.distexas.org.
