The Richardson League of Women Voters (RLWV) will co-host three candidate forums for the upcoming November general elections throughout the month of October. These forums will include races for Dallas and Collin County Sheriff, Texas House Seats 66, 67, 70, 112, US House of Representative Seat 3 and other contested races of local interest. These forums will take place throughout the month of October.
The first will take place October 1. The RLWV and the Richardson ISD Council of PTAs will jointly host a forum for the Texas House District 112 candidates. It will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Richardson ISD auditorium of the RISD Administrative Building, 400 S. Greenville Avenue in Richardson. Sandra Phuong VuLe, Democrat; and Angie Chen Button, Republican will participate. Phillip M. White, Libertarian, has declined. Nancy Wilson of the League of Women Voters of Richardson will be the moderator.
Next candidates for U.S. House of Representatives, District 3, and Texas House of Representatives, Districts 66 and 67, are being invited to participate in a forum on Saturday October 4. It will be held from 2:00-3:30 p.m., at Schimelpfenig Library, 5024 Custer Road in Plano. It will be jointly sponsored by The League of Women Voters of Plano/Collin County and the League of Women Voters of Richardson.
On October 7, The League of Women Voters chapters of Dallas, Irving and Richardson will jointly host a forum of Dallas County Sheriff candidates. The event will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Preston Hollow Elementary School, 6423 Walnut Hill in Dallas. Democrat Lupe Valdez, the current sheriff, and Republican Lowell Cannaday, former Police Chief of Irving are scheduled to attend and Brad Watson, Channel 8 (WFAA) reporter, will moderate the forum.
Lastly, on Saturday, October 18, The League of Women Voters of Plano/Collin County and the League of Women Voters of Richardson will host a forum for all candidates for State Representative District 70, Collin County Commissioner Ptc 4, Collin County Sheriff, and Collin County Tax Assessor-Collector. It will be held Saturday, October 18, 2008, 2:00-4:00 p.m., at McKinney Public Library, 101 E. Hunt St. in McKinney.
