It’s time to lace up those running shoes and register for an incredible cause that will make a difference in the lives of several adults with disabilities in our community. TXU Energy is teaming up with Citizens Development Center to sponsor the 2008 TXU Energy Dash for Dignity, a 5K and one-mile fun run.
The event will take place at White Rock Lake on October 11, and there will be additional activities, food and fun for the whole family to enjoy. The TXU Energy Dash for Dignity benefits Citizens Development Center, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower men and women with disabilities to achieve their highest level of employability.
In addition to sponsoring, TXU Energy will donate 25 trees to the “Most Able City” that participates in this year’s event. The “Most Able City” will be awarded as a result of having the most runners (either individually or in teams) participate in the TXU Energy Dash for Dignity in ratio to the community’s total population.
Also of note, 16 local city mayors have proclaimed October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Much of the community is unaware that there are more than 500,000 men, women and children with disabilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex alone. Through this event, we hope to leverage more attention to this issue.
